In August 2019, the New York World Wine & Spirits Competition awarded SUSTO a Double Gold medal. We knew we loved it, but it’s nice to know the experienced members in the wine and spirits industry do, too.
The judging process was rigorous. Over two days, a panel of judges conducted controlled blind tastings on three hundred different spirits with no previous information on producer or price point. These judges included the leaders of industry - the Spirits Editor of Wine Enthusiast magazine and the Senior Beverage Manager of Global Operations for Marriott.
Each of the nine judges determined if the spirit was medal worthy - Gold, Silver, or Bronze. The select few that earned a Gold from every judge were awarded a Double Gold Medal. Having earned a gold medal from each judge on the panel, SUSTO earned the Double Gold award - reserved for the finest liquors.
It’s a testament to tradition. It’s no surprise that honoring the processes honed over generations and perfected by our master mezcalero, Crispin Perez, creates a mezcal worthy of gold.
